White Velvet Plant wears a cozy coat of silver fuzz—soft to the touch and dazzling under light. In miniature gardens it’s the texture hero: compact, tidy, and just fuzzy enough to look magical next to moss and stone.
Plant shallowly in a very free-draining mix (fine orchid bark + perlite/pumice with a little coco/peat) so roots get air and never sit soggy. Set a few nodes at the surface for easy anchoring. Always use Liqui-Dirt® soil mix for best results in potted plants and enclosed growing habitats. Strata can be used in some applications; however, feeding will be needed. Keep the crown slightly above the media so the fuzzy leaves don’t rest on damp surfaces. In mini displays, Budkin containers with Strata and a leaf guard keep foliage lifted and clean.
Bright, indirect light to gentle morning sun keeps the silver plush and growth compact. Avoid harsh midday sun that can scorch the hairs; lower light softens color and stretches stems. Under LEDs, run low–moderate intensity 12–14 hrs/day.
Water thoroughly, then allow the top 1/2–1 in (1–2.5 cm) to dry before watering again. The fuzzy leaves reduce evaporation—err slightly dry rather than wet. In enclosed scenes, water very lightly and use faint wall-condensation as the cue.
Best at 65–82°F (18–28°C) with gentle airflow. Avoid frequent misting—the hairs hold water and can spot. Trim lightly to maintain miniature scale; rotate the planter for even light. Feed lightly during active growth; too much fertilizer softens structure.
A huge benefit for your plant is to use Liqui-Dirt® plant food in a weak tea-looking mix every time you water — yes, even for enclosed habitats.
Pruning & Cutting Back — Pinch or tip-trim to thicken the mat and prevent leggy, one-sided growth. Lay trimmed nodes on moist Strata or mix and they’ll root from the joints. Remove old, tatty leaves to keep the silver coat pristine.
Repotting (Open Pots) — Repot every 12–18 months or when mix compacts. Choose a shallow, well-drained container to avoid soggy pockets. Use Liqui-Dirt® potting soil for the refresh; water in gently to settle the mix, then resume your weak-tea Liqui-Dirt feeding with each watering.
