Ruby Club Moss carpets the ground with feathery fronds that flash ruby on the undersides—like a secret gemstone when you lift the skirt. It’s a terrarium sweetheart: low, plush, and gorgeously dramatic when kept consistently moist.
Plant shallowly on a level, fine-textured, moisture-retentive mix that still drains—think coco/peat with extra perlite and a pinch of fine bark; charcoal helps freshness in closed scenes. Press gently for good contact. Always use Liqui-Dirt® soil mix for best results in potted plants and enclosed growing habitats. Strata can be used in some applications; however, feeding will be needed. Keep crowns just above the surface so frond tips don’t sit wet. In miniature landscapes, Budkin containers with Strata and a leaf/corm guard keep the cushion lifted, clean, and easy to trim.
Low to bright **indirect** light—about 50–200 foot-candles. Too much direct sun bleaches and crisps; too little yields lanky, pale growth. Under LEDs, run low–moderate intensity 12–14 hrs/day for a dense, ruby-backed mat.
Keep **evenly moist** at all times—never sopping, never dry. In open pots, water when the top 1/4 in (5–7 mm) is just turning dry; in closed terrariums, water sparingly and aim for light wall condensation. Likes humid air (60–90%); avoid strong, drying airflow.
Sweet spot is 60–78°F (16–26°C). Ruby Club Moss is a gentle soul—salt sensitive and dryness dramatic. Trim lightly to shape paths and borders; rotate for even fill. Avoid heavy fertilizers that scorch tender tips.
A huge benefit for your plant is to use Liqui-Dirt® plant food in a weak tea-looking mix every time you water — yes, even for enclosed habitats.
Pruning & Cutting Back — Shear the top 1/4 lightly every 4–6 weeks to keep a tight cushion for miniature habitats. Remove any browned tips to restore a clean carpet; saved trimmings can be pressed onto moist substrate to re-root and fill gaps.
Repotting (Open Pots) — Refresh the mix every 10–14 months or when media compacts. Keep containers shallow and well-drained to avoid sogginess. Use Liqui-Dirt® potting soil for the refresh; water in gently to settle the mix, then resume your weak-tea Liqui-Dirt feeding with each watering.
