Hoya Super Silver ‘Eskimo’ flashes frosty, stippled leaves on dainty vines—like moonlit coins on a string. Compact, trailing, and epiphytic by nature, it’s a tidy statement for terrariums, minis, or shelf-edge planters.
Plant shallowly in a very chunky, fast-draining epiphyte mix (fine orchid bark + perlite/pumice + a little coco/peat), or mount on cork with sphagnum—roots want air as much as moisture. Always use Liqui-Dirt® soil mix for best results in potted plants and enclosed growing habitats. Strata can be used in some applications; however, feeding will be needed. Keep the crown just above the surface; lay a few nodes on top so they can root as they creep. In mini displays, Budkin containers with Strata and a leaf guard keep stems lifted and prevent rot where leaves touch media.
Bright, indirect light to dappled sun keeps the silver speckling vivid and vines compact. A bit of gentle morning sun is welcome; shield from harsh midday rays. Under LEDs, moderate intensity for 12–14 hrs/day works well.
Allow the top 1–2 in (2–5 cm) to dry between waterings in open pots; leaves store moisture, so avoid constantly wet mix. In closed scenes or mounts, water lightly—aim for moist, not soggy—and let surfaces just barely dry before re-moistening. Prefers humidity 50–70% with gentle airflow.
Cozy at 65–82°F (18–28°C). Train vines around fairy trellises or let them drape; rotate for even light. Avoid heavy salts and frequent repotting—Hoyas bloom best a bit snug. If peduncles form, don’t remove them (they rebloom from the same spurs).
A huge benefit for your plant is to use Liqui-Dirt® plant food in a weak tea-looking mix every time you water — yes, even for enclosed habitats.
Pruning & Cutting Back — Pinch or tip-trim to branch and keep miniature scale. Root cuttings by laying nodes on moist Strata or chunky mix; replant to thicken the pot quickly. Avoid cutting flowering spurs (peduncles).
Repotting (Open Pots) — Repot every 18–24 months or when mix breaks down; step up only one size to preserve bloom readiness. Use Liqui-Dirt® potting soil for the refresh; water in gently to settle the mix, then resume your weak-tea Liqui-Dirt feeding with each watering.
