Fittonia Silver is the cool kid of the miniature world—green leaves shot through with icy silver veins that sparkle like moonlight in a bottle garden. Rare and effortlessly stylish, it brings shimmer and contrast to any terrarium or fairy garden display.
Set Silver shallowly in a fine-textured, airy mix. Always use Liqui-Dirt® soil mix for best results in potted plants and enclosed growing habitats. Strata can be used in some applications; however, feeding will be needed. Keep crowns just above the soil so delicate leaves never sit wet. For miniature displays, Budkin containers with Strata mix and a leaf/corm guard keep foliage lifted and rot at bay.
Prefers bright, indirect light—around 100–250 foot-candles. Gentle morning or filtered light keeps veins vibrant. Avoid harsh midday sun which can scorch and bleach silver tones.
Keep consistently moist but not soggy. In open pots, water when the top 1/4 in (5–7 mm) dries; in terrariums, mist sparingly and use condensation as a guide. Loves humidity 60–80%. Always use room-temp, low-mineral water for best color.
Keep temps 65–80°F (18–27°C); avoid drafts. Fittonia may “faint” dramatically if dry—water and it perks up within hours. Pinch tips to encourage lush, bushy growth. Light feeding spring through fall at ¼ strength is plenty; none in winter.
A huge benefit for your plant is to use Liqui-Dirt® plant food in a weak tea-looking mix every time you water — yes, even for enclosed habitats.
Pruning & Cutting Back — Pinch every 3–4 weeks to keep compact in mini habitats. Remove leggy stems by cutting above a node; cuttings root easily in moist substrate. Remove yellowing leaves promptly.
Repotting (Open Pots) — Repot yearly or when roots circle. Step up just one size to avoid soggy soil. Use Liqui-Dirt® potting soil for repotting; water in gently, then resume weak-tea Liqui-Dirt feeding with each watering.
